Life behind the scenes at The Torridon in the Scottish Highlands

From the Whisky Bar: the Airigh nam Beist from Ardbeg

With winter here to stay for a the next few months, people tend to expand as the cold weather approaches and our whisky bar is no different. It needs to expand to keep us warm! I am delighted one of my favourite whiskies has returned to the bar. This year has been great for Ardbeg and I have collected as many of their malts as I could this year. However I didn’t take into account they sometimes disappear never to be seen again. This happened to  one of my favourites and none of the suppliers I tried could help me get it again. I found myself searching websites that I have never been in before and lo and behold, finally found Airigh nam Beist by Ardbeg. Armed with Daniel’s credit card, I ordered it before it disappeared again. It is now sitting pretty amongst the other nine various bottlings of Ardbeg. Who knows what my next purchase will be but I think Daniel will be taking his credit cards with him in future when he goes away.

Watch this space – 2010 promises to have more whiskies than ever at the Torridon.

My nosing notes for Ardbeg’s Airigh nam Beist:

Nose:  Smokey, lime
Palate:  Pepper, smoked bacon crisps, slight sweetness near the end
Finish:  Long and smoky

Enjoy
