You Don’t Need a Car to Get to Applecross Via Bealach na Ba.

by Dan on March 6, 2009

google-mapsLast week Nick, one of the chefs at The Torridon, and I decided that we could, and would, go over to Applecross by bicycle.

After making some arrangements we set out to cross the Bealach and down to Applecross.

On the route out, the wind was behind us and we sped along the glens from Shieldaig along to the bottom of the Bealach.

As we started up the hill the wind changed direction and started blowing straight down the hill into our faces.

We pushed on as far as possible until the wind and hill had finally beaten us.

We had gotten to the zigzags and then we were forced to push the rest of the way to the viewpoint. At which point we were getting such a buffering that we just got back on the bikes and raced into Applecross managing to beat the lift we had arranged.

So the moral of that is, you can get to Applecross via Bealach na Ba but it’s the getting back that’s the problem.
